The Alabama River Team Trail kicked off the 2004 tournament
season on February 28th at Cooter's Pond in Prattville, Alabama.
17 teams turned out for a cold morning that would prove to
be a great day for being outside and catching nice bass. The
river had seen a lot of rain the week before the tournament
giving the anglers the challenge of heavily stained, cold
moving water. Every single team caught fish and the quality
of the fish was a big topic of conversation at the weigh-in
at three o'clock. The top pattern turned out to be a shallow
water, pre-spawn bite for largemouth with plastics, jigs and
spinnerbaits. There were a couple of large spots weighed in
but largemouth dominated the tournament.
1st Place - 20.51 lbs. Joey Alford and Mike
Brooks of Prattville weighed in 5 fish at 20.51 lbs. 1st
place payout was $1125.00
2nd Place - 20.18 lbs. Bert Patterson of
Millbrook and Steve Burns of Prattville weighed in a nice
limit of largemouth at 20.18 lbs. 2nd place payout was $600.00
Big Fish - 5.97 lbs. Brian Royal and Sean
Custard of Montgomery weighed in the big fish at 5.97 lbs.
Next Tournament: The Alabama River Trail's
next event is at Swift Creek in Autaugaville, AL on March
27th.
