We were met with crisp clear skies at the Lime Saddle
Marina launch ramp. It was a good thing we had brought
a propane heater with us. The heater made registration
bearable inside the Angler's Choice trailer.
Thanks to Mike Brakebill of RoboWorm for sending up
baits for the anglers at registration. I know the anglers
appreciate getting baits from RoboWorm. They produce
high quality, good looking and fish catching baits.
From their FX series, the Zipper style worms to their
finesse series baits. They all catch fish! Get to your
nearest tackle shop and add a bag to your arsenal today!
30 teams, 28 paid, blasted off into the sunrise. Most
of them heading towards the main body of the lake, we'd
see them back at the docks of Lime Saddle Marina at
3:00 p.m. for a dockside weigh-in. Meanwhile we headed
out for a bit of fishing as well. We fished just past
the bridge using 1/8 ounce dartheads tipped with 6"
RoboWorm FX series sculpin baits. We culled to about
a 7 pound limit. We caught lots of fish but no kickers.
We were ready for weigh-in by 2:30. Figured we might
have a few early guys since it was Super Bowl Sunday.
I guess due to the fact the 9'ers or the Raiders weren't
playing everyone decided to stay until the end! The
teams began to roll in right on time.
Limits were the rule of the day. They
were averaging about 7 to 8 pounds. Rod Luman and
Lloyd Baumann was sure the their 9.67 limit with a
2.45 Big Bass wouldn't hold out with Dave Rush and
Brad Taggert yet to weigh-in! All were on edge with
Dave Rush did come to the scales. Once the weighmaster,
Jerame Davis, announced the weight of 7.34, Rod knew
that had it in the bag. Rod Luman and Lloyd Baumann
took home $1160.00 for 1st place, $280.00 and a Kistler
Custom Rod for Big Bass and Tactical Assault/RoboWorm
sponsored plaques. Just .36 of a pound behind Rod
and Lloyd was Don Reighley and Joe Bitker with a 9.31
limit. That was good for 2nd place Tactical Assault/RoboWorm
sponsored plaques and $580.00. Glen Lockhart and Junior
Morris brought five fish to the scales that weighed
in at 8.94. Third place netted them $470.00 and Tactical
Assault RoboWorm sponsored plaques. Fourth place,
$360.00 and Tactical Assault/RoboWorm sponsored plaques
went to Mike Hanson and John Dryden for their 8.83
limit. An 8.74 five fish limit that was brought to
the scales by Pat Dilling and Wayne Howenstine was
good for 5th place and $295.00. One spot out of the
money was Toms Sams and Cody Elderd. For their 8.60
limit they each received a $25.00 gift certificate
from Just Fishin Boats in Rancho Cordova and an Anglers
Choice Championship t-shirt. Scott Mascadri had 2nd
Big Bass with a 2.43 Spotted Bass, he was awarded
a team set of EZ-Cull-RZ floating rope culling systems
by Basswidow Products. The team weighing the smallest
weight didn't hang around, so Mike Moad was awarded
a jar of Craw-Cane for his one fish that weighed 1.28
pounds.
22 teams brought in limits and one
team blanked. Of the 127 bass that were brought to
the scales only two were Largemouth, the rest were
Spotted Bass. Total weight for the 127 bass was 195.90
making the average fish weighing around 1½
pounds. All of the fished were weighed in and released
alive to play another day!
Thanks to Lime Saddle Marina for letting
us use the dock for the weigh-in. The staff there
is always helpful. Also, thanks to my crew Jerame
Davis, my brother Dan Davis and Richard for helping
out. I would also like to thank all of you the showed
up to fish on Super Bowl Sunday! Hope you didn't miss
out on a Super Bowl party and that your team won!
See you at Lake Berryessa March 10th!
