It's Sunday morning, 02:00 a.m. and the moon is full and bright. I noticed I didn't hear the wind chimes hanging off the back porch. Was this to mean that the wind had died down from earlier in the week? I was surely hoping so. The Delta can be a mean place wind the winds are strong!

Lundborg Landings was dark when my brother Dan and I pulled in at 03:15.
We staked a claim to an area just outside the entrance and sat up our registration point. With the Honda generator humming right along we had lights. As the 35 teams checked-in they received tube baits from California Tackle Company, Bass Cat Spinnerbaits and Yamamoto sample packs. All teams had there had full as they headed to the launch ramp. Up at the ramp Ed Moan of The Landing Bar & Grill had coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts for the anglers. Ed thanks for making the California Foothills Division welcome at Lundborg Landing.

This event was the beginning of the summer season and would be a short event. Once launched we wouldn't see these guys back until 1:00 p.m. Hopefully with limits and heavy bags! After the weigh-in we had a raffle planned to raffle some sponsor products. What a great way to end a season with a raffle on Father's Day!

The wind stayed calm most of the day with gusts here and there. Around noon we had two teams weigh-in and head home for their Dadly duties. As the clock neared 1:00 p.m. the teams began to arrive. Not many limits were in the bags as the anglers came to the scales. All were saying that the day had not worked to their advantage. Then Chirs Ball arrived at the weigh station. His partner had been unable to fish so Chris fished alone. His five fish limit weighed in at 18.95 with a 5.28 kicker that was the Big Bass of the event. Chris took home $1335 for 1st Place, $340 Big Bass, $100 in option money and 84 Lumber sponsored plaques. A 15.03 limit with a 4.74 kicker, Mike Saso and Steve Flanders netted $670, $100 option for second place and 84 Lumber plaques. Along with a California Tackle Co. ball bearing lifetime warranted bait casting reel, a set of EZ-Cul-RZ, a Yamamoto bait assortment, and a jar of Craw-Cane for second Big Bass. Just a ½ pound behind was father and son team Bob and Boddy Trujillo with a 14.59 limit. They took home $580 and 84 Lumber plaques. Steve Hiyashi and Mark Hinkle landed 5 fish that weighed 14.27 and took home 4th place honors, $480 and 84 Lumber plaques. Eddie Fletcher and Don Stone had 5th place wrapped up with a 13.67 limit at netted $400 even and 84 Lumber plaques. Chuck Spurlock and Randy Lee claimed 6th place with an 11.60 limit that was good for $315 and 84 Lumber plaques, they also received $100 in option money. The team of Fonte and Stich had 7th in the net with 11.49 for 5 fish and won our Lucky S.O.B. (Son of a Bass) one spot out of the money option of $150!

With weigh-in completed it was time for the RAFFLE! We sold raffle tickets for a buck apiece and the proceeds would then be raffled back to the participants! We had a bit of everything! A 6¼ hp Shop-Vac from 84 lumber a $125 value, a guided salmon, striper or sturgeon fishing trip with Capt. Jeff Goedeke of Success Guide Service on the upper Sacramento River a $300 value. California Tackle Company lifetime warranted reels, RoboWorm Assortments, jars of Craw-Cane, EZ-Cul-RZ team sets and Yamamoto assortments. From Ultra Truck Works in Elk Grove a Chrome Propeller hitch cover and a keyed hitch lock, Just Fishin' in Rancho Cordova gave 2 $25 gift certificates, a 3000 yard spool of 20 lb. Trilene, a Castaic Swim bait and the new Lucky Craft buzzbait. Gene Bucholz of the Hook Line and Sinker in Oakley donated a $20 gift certificate, Angler's Cove a tackle pack and Ed Moan of the Landing Bar & Grill donated 20 launch passes that were given in packs of 5. In between the products we raffled to proceeds, 2 $50 cash prizes, a $58 cash prize and a $100 cash prize! Talk about a great raffle! The LIVE MUSIC at the Landing Bar and Grill even made the event that much more fun! Thanks to Ed Moan and all the staff at Lundborg Landing for their hospitality, good food and drinks, and making us welcome!

Before heading out and just before the end of the raffle. I had the privilege of announcing the 2003 California Foothill Division Anglers of the Year.
