As the weather has cleared and the temperature is rising, the Delta is
setting up for it's legendary spawn. Information from the previous day's
fishing was that it was still a tough bite though and the results would
reflect that. 45 teams signed in on the cool and clear morning and after
enjoying some complimentary hot coffee and doughnuts we blasted off.

The water was very calm and no boat traffic, but the threat of fog would
turn to reality and as the day was looking to be clear and warm, the
recreational boats would come to clog the main channel. Not to mention that
little tanker steaming up the channel just in time for weigh in!

Only 13 limits came in and there were 10 teams that did not weigh in. It
should come as no surprise the team to come out on top, long time Delta
sticks Steve Sapp and partner John Varanai. The team fished in the northern
Delta and combined for a weight of 21.16 lbs. John put the tournament Big
Fish of 7.04 lbs in the sack. First place brought a check for $2535.00 to
the team.

Second place was Chris McCabe who once again fished by himself and once
again finished in the money. Chris's bag went 17.47 lbs with a Second Big
Fish kicker of 6.75 lbs. Chris's kicker took the Second Big Fish title by a
tiny .01 lb over the team of Mark Hoffeditz and Kelly Lee. Chris took home
a total of $1180.00 for the finish.

Third place went to the new team of Josh Pelfry and Carl Bolling who brought
a healthy bag weighing in at 17.15 lbs. with a nice 5.58 lb kicker. Josh
and Carl received a check for $920.00 for their first tournament in this
Region.

The Father and Son team of Lorenzo and John Rossetti, the defending Angler's
Choice TOC Champions, finished in fourth place with a 16.43 lb limit and
earned a check for $525.00

Another new team fishing their first East Delta Region tournament, Gary Ganz
and Dennis Allison came in fifth place. Their 16.40 lb bag with a 5.52 lb
kicker was good for a $440.00 payday to the team.

Long time Delta fisherman Mike Delnero and Tom Gomez were able to put a 6.22
lb kicker in the boat to bump their weight to 15.78 lbs. Their sixth place
check was $380.00.

One of the toughest competing teams on the Delta, Bill Spence Jr. and Chris
Raza only required one partner to earn the seventh place spot. Chris fished
by himself while Bill had a scheduling conflict. Chris was able to put
together a nice 13.37 lb limit for a $340.00 pay check.

Last in the money was the eighth place team Mick Kitchen and Duke Brown.
They were absent at the awards ceremony but Mick was overheard at check-in
saying he was going to fish in his backyard. That would be Tracy. Mick and
Duke will take home $280.00 for their finish.

Our next East Delta event will be May 2 out of Ladds. Our TOC will be at
Lake Oroville October 20-23 with 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place each getting a new
Bass Cat with a Mercury Opti-Max motor, Motor Guide trolling motor, and
Lowrance Electronics.
