Gangwer And Fagundes Win On The Delta

It appears the Central Valley has gone from Winter right into Summer as the
weather for the East Delta tournament was clear, sunny and HOT! Tournament
results one day previous showed the bite to be off a bit and that would
prove to be true for most of the 40 teams fishing. But, as always, some of
the teams were able to put together some nice bags.

Limits were the rule as 33 out of the 40 teams came to the scales with a
full bag with only four teams taking a zero. The big sack went to first
time East Delta team (but long time fisher-persons!) Phil Gangwer and Carol
Fagundes. As Carol has shown on many occasions, Competitive Bass fishing
knows no gender boundaries! To prove that, Phil and Carol had two 8 pound
class fish and big fish of the tournament of 8.23 pounds to fill out their
26.23 pound bag. That weight was good for $2340.00 including Big Fish money
and options.

Second place with second Big Fish of 8.17 pounds (guess those 8 pounders
were out in force today!) was the team of Mike Delnero and Tom Gomez. Total
weight for the team was 22.46 pounds, good for $1025.00 in prize and
options. This is Mike and Tom's second straight payday in the region and
boosted the team into the lead for Angler of the year in the East Delta
Region.

Third place went to the Father and Son team of Hose and Kevin Looper. Their
weight of 20.70 pounds with a nice 5.62 pound kicker brought a check for
$840.00 with options to the team.

Fourth Place saw the legendary and always dangerous team of Steve Sapp and
John Varanai bring a solid 20.47 pound bag to the scales. At the awards
ceremony, Steve stated that they caught only five fish all day! They were
obviously the right fish! Steve and John earned a check for $500.00 for
fourth.

Fifth place saw another new team for the East Delta Region but long time
competitors Bernie Gaunt and Leroy Bertolero. Bernie and Leroy said they
had caught 40 fish throughout the day but didn't have a kicker, just a bag
of "clones" totalling 19.45 pounds. Their weight brought the the team a
check for $410.00.

Steven Tragoutsis and Stuart Bodwin brought the third best Big Fish to the
scales, just missing the 8 pound mark at 7.94 pounds. Total for their 5
fish bag was 18.23 pounds. That was good enough for sixth place and a
$340.00 check.

Last in the money and holding the number two spot in AOY race was the team
of Scott and Russ Adkins. Their 17.63 pound limit was capped by a 5.87
pound kicker to bring the team a $280.00 check for seventh place.

Our next East Delta event will be June 27 out of Ladds. Our TOC will be at
Lake Oroville October 20-23 with 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place each getting a new
Bass Cat with a Mercury Opti-Max motor, Motor Guide trolling motor, and
Lowrance Electronics.
