Cherokee Lake, TN
The Galyons
Win Cherokee Tournament
It was an overcast and cool morning
when the best fishermen in East Tennessee gathered at Cherokee
Lake to fish the second event of 2002. Everyone was ready
to go fishing. The father and son team of George Galyon Jr.
and George Galyon III won their first U.S. Angler's Choice tournament
of the year. This smiling team weighed in the only limit of
the tournament and their bag hit the scales at 14.34 lb. anchored
by a 3.45 lber. This talented team reported catching the big
fish on a spinnerbait and the rest were caught on a Carolina
rig on the lower end in 8 to 12 feet of water. With this win
the Galyons take over the points lead. GREAT JOB.
Second place went to another
one of the Galyons. This time it was Shawn Galyon and his
partner James Scruggs this team reported catching their 4
fish on Carolina rig on the lower end of the lake in 6 to
12 feet of water. And yes George the III is Shawn's Uncle.
With this second place finish Shawn and James move into second
place in points less than two points out of first.
The big fish of the tournament
went to a new team that drove all the way from Wise Virginia
to fish their first U.S. Angler's Choice. Their beautiful fish
weighted in a 3.78 pounds. This put a smile on their face
as they headed back to home.
The hard luck award of the tournament
has to go to Scott Maddox who did not run his Aries bassboat
very far from the ramp. With less than one hour to fish Scott
was fishing next to the ramp and with all the U.S. Angler's Choice
weigh-in crew watching Scott set the hook on a fish that breaks
his line. About two-seconds later the fish, well over three
pounds, comes up and tries to throw the hook out. If Scott
had gotten this one fish he would have at least finished in
the money. But that is why they call it fishing and not catching.
U.S. Angler's Choice would like to thank all the dedicated anglers
that showed up to fish. U.S. Angler's Choice would also like to
thank Dr. Gregg Cook of Appalachian Dental for his continued
support. Our next tournament will be on Watts Bar Lake on
