After a week of heavy rain, flooding,
and unheard of mud slides in East Tennessee the best fishermen
in the South made every effort to get to the first Angler's
Choice tournament of the new year. At blast off there were
thunderstorms, rain, and winds of more than 30 MPH.
At the end of the day it was
Nathan Light and Larry Fitzgerald who persevered and overcame
the nasty weather to win their first Angler's Choice Tournament.
This team did it with style by bringing the only five fish
limit to the scales that weighed 11.08 pounds. They reported
having engine trouble and decided to stay close to the boat
ramp to catch their fish. Their limit of fish came on a crank-bait
in about five feet of water.
Second place went to the team
of Roger Cox and Craig Hughes. This talented team used a jerk-bait
to catch their fish. They came to the scales with four fish
that hit the scales at 8.48 pounds. Craig is a member of the
Tennessee Christian Bass Anglers.
Third place went to the last
years Anglers of the Year George Galyon III and George Jr.
This great father and son team weighed in three fish that
weighed 8.25 pounds. Knowing the Galyons they probably caught
them on a spinnerbait even in the 45degree water.
The lunker of the day went to
Dewayne Pilkey and Dennis Walden with a beautiful 5.36 pound
largemouth. Dennis said that they caught the fish on a crankbait.
In all there were only twenty fish weighed in and half the
field zeroed making this the lowest total weight to ever be
weighed in during an Angler's Choice of East Tennessee Tournament.
In closing Angler's Choice staff
would like to thank all the fishermen that came and battled
the elements to fish. All the fish were released alive to
fight again. GREAT JOB MEN. God bless and see you next month.
Angler's Choice would also like to thank Dr. Greg Cook of
Appalachian Dental for his continued support. Our next tournament
will be on Cherokee Lake on March 22. For more information
