Cherokee Lake, TN
Smiley And Lowe
Win Cherokee
Written by Director Steve
Jennings
December means great fishing on Cherokee Lake
With snow on the Great Smokey Mountains as backdrop the best
fishermen in East Tennessee gathered on the banks of Cherokee
Lake. These fishermen came with snowsuits, motorcycle helmets
and propane space heater setting on the front decks to help
keep them warm. You ask why grown men would do this? Answer
because on Cherokee Lake when the cold winds blow and the
snow and rain come the small mouth bass bite. And bite they
did, with almost a third of the field bringing a limit of
fish to the scales.
The talk before the tournament was the new trail that was
being announced by tournament director Steve Jennings, Angler's
Choice and Morristown Chamber of Commerce has teamed together
to provide the fishermen of East Tennessee a great format
tournament. This new trail consists of 6 tournaments all fished
from the Highway 25 Bridge Ramp in Morristown. The great thing
about these tournaments is that 1st place is guaranteed $2000
no matter how many boats fish.
First place went to the team
of Tim Smiley and Mike Lowe. Tim report running his Stratos
boat as high as Point 13 to catch the limit of fish that hit
the scales at 17.31 pounds which also included the big fish
of the tournament a beautiful 4.99 pound bass, giving them
their first Angler's Choice victory of the year. Tim reported
catching their fish on Bandit crank baits on main lake points
in three to six feet of water. Tim would like to thank Barbara
at Morristown Marine.
The well-rounded team of Scott
Maddox and Eugene Randolph ran their Aries Bass boat to the
mid section of Cherokee Lake. This colorful Crossville team
came to the scales with a mixed bag of Largemouth and Smallmouth
Bass that hit the scales at 15.40 pounds. Scott reported they
caught their fish on a crank bait in six to eight feet of
water. Scott also stated they caught fish all day long and
added that Eugene was the best net man this side of the Mississippi
River. Eugene was quick to point out that if Scott was a better
net man they may have won the tournament. This team gave thanks
to their Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ for allowing them to
have great day fishing. Great job guys.
In closing Angler's Choice staff
would like to thank all the fishermen that came and fished.
Please remember that the next tournament will be on Cherokee
Lake on February 28,2003.
