Cherokee Lake, TN
Collins And Flecther
Win Cherokee
When a tournament director sets
down in July to make out his schedule for next year he has
no idea what to expect the weather to be like a half a year
later. Little did this tournament director know that the Thursday
before his February tournament on Cherokee lake that the good
Lord would decorate the landscape of Upper East Tennessee
with up to 8 inches of wet snow. And if the melting snow didnt
create enough problems then the fog that set in about an hour
before blast off time did. This freezing fog delayed the blast
until after 9:30 AM. The good part about the delay was that
all of the fishermen had a great time sitting around a fellowshipping
together. I personally picked up some great fishing instructions
from the best fishermen in the Southeast. There was also a
lot of talk about the new trail that had been announced by
tournament director Steve Jennings, Anglers Choice and
Morristown Chamber of Commerce has teamed together to provide
the fishermen of East Tennessee a great format tournament.
This new trail consists of 6 tournaments all fished from the
Highway 25 Bridge Ramp in Morristown. The great thing about
these tournaments is that 1st place is guaranteed $2000 no
matter how many boats fish.
After a long wait these men
were ready to go fishing. With water temperatures in the low
40-degree range most knew it was going to be tough. But the
tough team of Mike Fletcher and Willie Collins who were the
lucky boat number 13 came away with an impressive win beating
the second place team by over five pounds giving them their
first Anglers Choice win. This team reported running
their boat to above Morristown to bring back the only five
fish limit which weighed in at 16.30 pounds. This bag of fish
also contained the lunker of the tournament a beautiful 5.55
pound largemouth bass. This team reported catching their fish
on the main lake in less than three feet of water on a crank-bait.
Great job!
The well-rounded team of Allen
McKee and William Huebolter had a good day fishing because
they came to the scales with just three fish but they weighed
11.03 pounds. Allen reported catching their fish in the back
of pockets around the Morristown area of the lake on a crank-bait
and a Silver Buddy. Great job guys.
In closing Anglers Choice
staff would like to thank all the fishermen that came and
fished. Please remember that the next tournament will be on
Watts Bar Lake on May 24,2004.
