After two days of light to moderate rains a slow moving cold front finally pushed its way through the area early in the day. This made way for blue bird skies and tough fishing conditions. Anglers that had reported 18+ pound days in practice prior to the event, only struggled to boat a keeper on tournament day.
However the first place team of: David (Boo) Guill from Royalton, IL. and Greg Berner of Elkville, IL. were able to string together five keeper bites weighing 11.74 lbs to win the Illinois Winter division, kick off tournament on Lake Egypt. The team concentrated on grass lines and using top water baits to boat the winning limit. Most of the team's bites came early in the day but they also reported catching fish in the afternoon. Second place went to Bob Hughoy from Carbondale, IL. Bob fished alone due to his partner being ill. He fished main lake grass beds with a red spoon, concentrating on water in the 6 to 8 foot range. He also reported that the bites came slow throughout the day and you just had to be patient. He had a total weight of 9.23 lbs.
Third place goes to the team of: Mark Jelly and Danny Clark both of Ziegler, IL. The team reported a tough day of fishing on the lake but was able to boat five keeper fish on grass frogs and tubes, fishing the mats to catch their fish. The team reported catching most of their fish in 3 to 4 feet of water.
Big Bass went to the team of: Fred Washburn and L.D. Koehl. The fished weighed 3.95lbs and was caught on a salty crawl while fishing a ledge.
