Winkler and Mullins Win Illinois / Winter 2nd Event

Steve Winkler and Greg Mullins

After a week of warm temperatures a fast moving cold front had pushed through the area 2 days before the tournament. Anglers woke to temperatures in the upper twenties and headed to the power plant lake. As the day progress the sunny skies yielded temperatures in the mid forties. Even with the postfrontal conditions some good weights were brought to the scales. First place went to the team of Greg Mullins from Mt.Vernon, IL and Steve Winkler of Dix, IL. The team had four nice keeper fish in the boat within the first hour of fishing. The team went on to catch seven keeper fish during the day with their best five weighing 14.97lbs. Their catch was anchored by a healthy 5.13lb largemouth, which also claimed big bass honors for the day. The teams fish were caught on crank baits in water depths ranging from 4ft. to 9ft. The team is sponsored by: Midwest Marine, Rend Lake Sporting Goods, Custom Coach Trailer Sales and Interstate Batteries. Great job guys!!!

Second place went to Justin Vojvodich and Lester Abner both from Goreville, IL. The team brought a five fish limit to the scales and reported catching several other keeper fish during the day. The days best five weighed in at 13.07lbs. The team used spinner baits and crank baits in a water depth of six to seven ft. to boat their keepers. They reported that staying in the clearer water seemed to help their bite.

Third place went to Jack Doan and Ben Doan both from Desoto, IL. Their five fish limit tipped the scales at 12.21lbs. The team slow rolled Competitive Edge spinner baits over the grass in various water depths. The team also reported culling two fish during the day with their best two fish coming in the last 10 minutes of the day. The team is sponsored by: Competitive Edge Fishing and R.C. lures.
