The
2-2-03 make up date for the 1-19-03 event that was cancelled
due to ice on the ramp and single digit temps yielded
beautiful weather and tough fishing conditions for most.
With air temps in the mid 60s but with half of the lake
froze due to several weeks of well below average temperatures
many were not able to reach the areas they normally
fish. There were several teams that made the most of
the available water and brought respectable weights
for anytime of the year to the scales. The first place
team of: Jack Doan and Ben Doan both from Desoto IL.
brought 17.62Lbs of fish to the scales for their first
win of the winter series. The team has been close in
several events just lacking that one anchor fish to
push them to the top. On this day they found it, a healthy
5.20lb large mouth that helped best the second place
team by nearly four pounds. The team used a combination
of baits ranging from jigs, crank baits and Competitive
Edge spinner baits catch their fish. Their fish
were caught in water depths ranging from 5 feet to 12
feet. The team reported that the bites were really subtle
and you had to work your baits extremely slow to trigger
the fish into hitting. The win puts the team 1.25 points
behind the current point leaders Danny Clark and Mark
Jelley with two events left to fish. Jack and Ben are
sponsored by: Competitive
Edge Fishing.
The second place team of George Panick from Marion,
IL. and Albert Krueger from Chicago, IL also beat the
tough conditions and weighing in a healthy bag of fish,
with a total weight of 13.80lbs. The team caught their
fish on crank baits, jerk baits and jigs. All of the
teams fish were caught in water depths less than ten
feet deep. The team reported catching fish in many different
areas and that no one spot produced more than two fish.
George and Albert are currently third in points and
ready to fish the next two events.
