The US Anglers Choice Kentucky Lake Division
kicked off its inaugural season Sunday, March 14th at the
Kentucky Dam Ramp. The day started off soggy, with a steady
drizzle falling until about 9 o'clock. Then the sun came
out and it was a beautiful day. Andy Hodges of Cadiz and
DeWayne Whitledge of Dixon took home top honors worth $1,100
when they weighed in a 5 fish limit of bass weighing 17.83
pounds. DeWayne said they caught 6 keepers during the day,
catching their lasts one around 1:30. They used mostly crankbaits.
Andy caught the teams biggest fish, a largemouth weighing
5.67 pounds. He said they fished on Barkley Lake the entire
day.
In second place was the team of Ronnie Brinnegar
from Calvert City and Chris Hoover from Gilbertsville. They
had a 5 fish limit weighing 17.10 pounds. Chris caught the
big bass of the tournament worth $120.00 when he boated
a Largemouth weighing 7.85 pounds. Ronnie and Chris are
sponsored by FLW outdoors.
In third was the team of Chuck Rounds and
Danny York of Benton with a total weight of 16.84 pounds.
This was remarkable when you consider they only had 4 fish.
Chuck said they just couldn't find #5, which would have
given them the win. Danny had the second biggest bass of
the day, a 6.49 pound largemouth.
US Anglers Choice is a team bass tournament
format with 7 events scheduled for the Kentucky/Barkley
lakes in 2004. The top 40% of the teams, plus wildcards
will be invited to a no-entry fee classic on Dale Hollow
Lake on November 2nd and 3rd 2004. They will be fishing
for 3 fully rigged Bass Cat boats powered by Mercury Motors
and equipped with Lowrance electronics and a Motor Guide
trolling motor. In addition, the points champions from the
15 Regions will be fishing in a tournament within a tournament.
The top 3 teams, regardless of their classic finish, will
get 7 free entries into US Anglers Choice events in 2005,
$1,000 worth of CE tackle and cash ranging from $2500 to
$1000. Information on US Anglers Choice events in your area
can be found on the website at www.www.usanglerschoice.net or
