The first tournament of the new U.S. Angler's
Choice division, Kerr Super Teams kicked off March 13, 2004
out of Occoneechee State Park in Clarksville, Virginia. 22
teams were on hand to compete in this event which was hosted
by the Clarksville Economic Development Association and the
Lake Motel. Their sponsorship and support allows us to guarantee
$2000 to the winning team and $500 big bass at each of the
7 qualifying tournaments, thus the name "Super Teams"!
Although there was a BFL event the same day on Kerr's sister
lake, Lake Gaston as well as a few other small open tournaments
on Buggs Island, as Kerr is locally known, Kerr Super Teams
made a presence. "We're trying to avoid confusion between
U.S. Angler's Choice and Angler's Choice Marine, a very popular
boat dealer in this area who also conducts a very successful
tournament trail", remarked Tournament Director Dave
Kilby." I think some teams thought we were one and the
same", he added.
Although a sunny day with light winds was forecast, a steady
wind blew throughout most of the day forcing some teams further
back into the creeks and coves. Anticipation for a 20-pound
plus limit was high as recent reports had bigger fish moving
shallow on Kerr and ready to bite. Would these predictions
hold true?
As the 3:00PM weigh-in neared, it was evident that these anglers
meant business as only one boat returned early and they had
a solid limit. With everyone safe and accounted for, weigh-in
began and the largemouth were carried to the scales.
Finishing in 5th place and just out of the money was the team
of Billy Bledsoe and James Baxley. They had a limit of bass
that weighed 12.52 pounds. Our 4th place finishers brought
in 5 bass that totaled 12.69 and was worth $300 to Steven
and Thomas Griggs.
In 3rd place with 13.63 pounds was the team of Ron Anderson
and Jeremy Terry. They were awarded plaques and checks totaling
$360. Our 2nd place winners had a real nice limit that weighed
14.88 pounds and earned them plaques and $560. Darryl and
Jimmy Foster cranked up closed to 60 bass, carefully culling
to improve their catch. Way to go, guys!
Our champions not only had a great bag of fish, but also the
big fish of the tournament to anchor their catch. David Goins
and Lynn Fox carried 17.12 pounds of bass to the scales, including
a beautiful 6.05 largemouth! They had a payday of $2500 in
all, as well as plaques for their first place finish and the
tournament lunker. Congratulations on your victory, David
and Lynn.
Our next 2 events are on consecutive days Saturday, April
4th and Sunday, April 5th. REMEMBER...these are separate tournaments,
not a 2-day event. $2000 will be paid to first place each
day. Registration will begin at 4:00PM Friday at the Lake
Motel in Clarksville. Their number is 434-374-8106.
