Inman And Griggs Victorious In Second Kerr Super Teams Event

The U.S. Angler's Choice Kerr Super Teams second qualifying tournament was held on Saturday, April 3 out of Occoneechee State Park in Clarkville, Virginia. This event was hosted by the Clarksville Department of Economic Development and the Lake Motel.

The day opened under partly sunny skies and a brisk breeze which rapidly developed into 20-25 MPH gusts and a cloudy afternoon. Bass are reportedly eager to feed just before a front and this day would cause the participating teams to have mixed reviews about that adage.

As all of the 18 teams returned to the ramp on time, it was evident from the lack of smiles that this was a generally tough day on Kerr lake, or Buggs Island as it is locally known. In all, only two 5-bass limit were caught. In addition to the fickle weather was the number of other large tournaments on the lake and that made it even more difficult according to the angler's.
Finishing in 3rd place was the team of Pat Goodwin and Larry Stevens. They caught 4 bass on a suspended jerkbait in shallow water that weighed 11.16 pounds and were presented plaques and $320. Pat and Larry are sponsored by Dumfries Marine in Dumries, VA.

Our second place finisher was Sam Rineer fishing solo while his partner, Rich vonNordeck was on business out of town. Sam used a combination of reaction baits to catch only 3 bass, but they weighed 12.39 pounds. Sam also caught the tournament lunker, a fine largemouth weighing in at 5.44 pounds. Sponsored by Pop's Marine in Toano, Virginia, Sam was awarded 2nd place plaques, the lunker plaque, and over $1000!

Champions of this event was the team of Larry Inman and Thomas Griggs. Talk of the lake being "shut down" didn't faze them as they put together a beautiful creel of 5 fat largemouth that totaled 18.89 pounds! Their knowledge of Kerr Lake and how to catch bass when conditions are tough was all they needed to bank the $2000 first prize and the 1st place plaques. Congratulations Larry and Thomas!

The 3rd event in the Kerr Super Teams Division would be held on the following day.
