Kerr Lake, or Buggs Island as it is known locally is usually a predictable bass fishery, especially in the spring. As if to remind everyone that this is not always the case, Kerr offered a challenge to the 17 teams entered in the 4th Kerr Super Teams Division of the U.S. Angler's Choice Tournament Trail. After a week of tough practice, many teams revealed that they would be happy with just a couple 14" keeper largemouth bass.

A warm, sunny morning gave way to thick clouds and a few rain showers as the 3:00PM weigh-in time approached. Knowing the importance of catching just one legal bass for qualifying points kept the teams on the water until the last possible minute casting to every possible target near the ramps at Occoneechee State Park in Clarksville, Virginia.

Rumor became fact as only 35 bass were carried to the scales…an average of just over 2 bass per team! Only four 5-bass limits were caught, and those fortunate teams reportedly did not cull any bass in improve their creel.

Finishing just out of the money with 5 bass that weighed 8.98 pounds were David Goins and Lynn Fox. Winners of our first event this year, David and Lynn received 2 Daiwa rods donated by The Fishin' Shop in Baltimore, MD.

Our 3rd place finishers were Mark Winn and Ken Lackey. Mark and Ken brought 5 nice bass to the weigh-in that totaled 10.48 pounds and they received plaques and checks for $280. Nice job, guys.

Claiming 2nd place in today's tournament was Chris Bullock and James Boyd. Chris and James had a limit of largemouth that totaled 11.92 pounds. They also received plaques and $500 prize money for figuring out these bass on a tough Kerr Lake. Good work, Chris and James.

Our champions today not only had a limit of 5 bass, but also weighed in the only fish over 3 pounds. Their lunker, which weighed 4.58 pounds, anchored the 5-bass limit of veteran Angler's Choice competitors Pat Goodwin and Larry Stevens was worth $500.
Their limit, which weighed 13.14 pounds gave them the victory. You would think that the satisfaction of figuring out these bass on such a tough day would be reward enough, but Pat and Larry said, "Show us the money!" and we did….$2000 was pocketed by this duo as well as 1st place AND big bass plaques. Congratulations to these gentlemen on their victory!

This event was sponsored locally by the Clarksville Department of Economic Development and the Lake Motel (434-374-8106)…the only motel located on the lake.
The next Kerr Super Teams tournament is scheduled for July 10, also out of Occoneechee Sate Park in Clarksville
