And the Bassdozer Win Powell
"Great fishing for
bass, walleyes and stripers!" is how the first
place team of Russ Bassdozer and Jamie Cyphers described
the weekend action at the two one-day events held out
of Bullfrog Marina on Lake Powell.
Bassdozer and Cyphers didn't prefish and had not fished
the Bullfrog region of Lake Powell since last spring.
"Saturday afternoon, we located some open water
reefs and humps offshore from some underwater points.
In between were some deepwater channels where we marked
lots of threadfin shad on the electronics. On Saturday,
we caught plenty of walleyes, stripers, and we culled
a lot of bass there Saturday, so we weren't sure if
we burned out the spot on Saturday. But on Sunday morning,
there were many schools of stripers, bass and walleye
busting shad up against the offshore reefs, so we just
fished that spot for the rest of the day. The gamefish
and the shad were not going anywhere. So neither did
we," says Bassdozer.
The team caught fish on
Yamamoto Senkos, Yamamoto tubes, Yamamoto hula grubs
and Yamamoto spinnerbaits, but their best five bass
hit larger sizes of LuckyCraft ripbaits, crankbaits
and topwaters. "The bigger hard baits got a reaction
from the better bass," says Jamie Cyphers.
