Rasmussen And Menzes Win New Melones

The Angler’s Choice Motherlode division held it’s fourth tournament of the season with thirty-one teams--greeted with beautiful weather and a typical spring day with bright blue skies and light wind. There were lots of fish caught with 22 limits out of 31 teams. Some teams reported culling many keepers throughout the day. The larger fish didn't much care for the great weather and backed off into deeper water, leaving the smaller fish in charge, represented by the lower-than-average weights for this time of year. Top baits were Baby Brush Hogs (watermelon red) and Roboworms in Shad, Neon Blue, and Aarons Magic. Drop shot and dart head were the best methods although some jig fish were caught too.

U.S. Olympics gold medal skier Kyle Rasmussen is spending a little more time bass fishing and it has been paying off. Kyle and his partner Joe Menzes brought 14lbs to the scales anchored with a 4.43lb spotted bass to give them first place and $1715 cash plus a $1000 Bass Cat Bonus certificate and a pair of beautiful plaques! What an awesome payback for 31 teams!

The team to beat--Randy and Glenn Pierson, current leaders of the YTD points, took second with 13.49 lbs and a kicker 4.59 lb spot caught by Glenn. Their kicker fish held on to be the big fish of the day. They netted a total of $1230, 2nd place plaques and big bass honors for their strong effort. Not too bad for a second place finish.

Third place was the team of Bobby Rocha and Mike Sanders with 10.95lbs good for $680. This team is very familiar with high place finishes, and is currently in 3rd place in YTD points. Watch out for the remaining 3 tournaments, these guys are consistent!

Rounding out the remaining top finishes are Dan Pollard and Mark Pollard taking 4th with a good bag totaling 9.52 cashing them in for $395. 5th place had a tie with 8.88lbs caught by Dennis Lee and Donald Parr, but they boated a 2.66 spot that broke the tie and landed them $275. 6th place was Bruce Harris and Sieg Taylor with 8.88lbs good for $245. Bruce and Sieg have celebrity status since each won a new bass boat from B.A.S.S. Delta and Clear Lake two weeks ago. Congratulations guys on a job well done.

Our next event is May 10 at New Melones Reservoir. Check-in will start at 4:00am at Glory Hole Sports and blast-off will be roughly at 5:30am. Unlike the competition, Anglers Choice is giving away 3 Bass Cat boats, rigged with Mercury Optimax motors, complete with MotorGuide trolling motors and Lowrance electronics at the Championship Tournament on the California Delta, October 22-25!
