U.S. Angler's Choice held their 3rd of 7 events, this season, at Don Pedro Feb. 28 and it was almost a perfect day all around. 47 teams showed up at Fleming knowing the weather had broke and it was going to be a great day.

At 6:05 am all the teams were in numerical order, idling out in single file, with a green light to go after they passed the buoy line. Everything went smooth all day and after having lunch at the marina, which has a great lunch menu, I set up the scales and banners preparing for the weigh-in at 3pm. It turned out the fishing was as good as the weather, as 30 out of 47 teams had limits and very heavy weights. A total of 176 fish weighing 398 lbs were brought to the scales.

First place, top team of the day is U.S. gold medallist skier Kyle Rasmussen and gold medallist person Joe Menzes, they are a very popular team and they had probably the best day of fishing anyone could ever have. With a mega bag of 32.39 lbs and big fish of the tournament at 9.52 lbs they scored $2590.00. They stole the show and at the end told us how they did it. Rippin a Lucky Craft Pointer in ghost pattern on as many points as they could hit from one end of the lake to the other. Big fish came in woods and was seen chasing trout when it took the Pointer.

With the race for angler of the year heating up, 2nd place will really help the team of Gerry Johnson and Clyde Gregston who brought in a very large bag, 17.10 lbs with a 4 1/2 lb kicker caught drop shotting in Big Creek, netting them $1163.00.

In 3rd, another AOY contending team, Jeff Eddings and Gary Madsen coming to the scales with 15.75 lbs and second big fish of 5.37 lbs landing them a pay check of $987.00.

Taking 4th place is Don Longton, who is no stranger to big wins at Don Pedro, and his partner Corey Lewis with a total of 15.25 lbs snagging them a pay check of $530.00.

Coming in 5th place, a new team with Angler's Choice and a well known team on Pedro, is Ryan Voorhees and David McEwen. They were only about 1/2 of pound from 3rd with 15.20 lbs hooking them $425.00.

The father/son team of Glenn and Randy Pierson are making their move on AOY bringing in 14.60 lbs for a 6th place finish and a check for $375.00.

Another well known Motherlode team, Daniel Sexton and Nathan Couchman took 7th with 13.57 lbs good for $330.00.

8th place was taken by another new team to Angler's, the very tough team of Troy Wells and Todd Wells with a total of 13.53 lbs and a check for 275.00.

Last in the money, 9th place went to the well known team from Oakdale, Mel Williams and Brian Cogburn with a total of 13.39 lbs and a check for $230.00.

I would like to thank all the new teams for fishing and hope to see all in the next tournament at Lake McClure on Saturday March 6th. The bite should be wide open and it will set the stage for angler of the year race.
