March 6th saw U.S. Angler's Choice hold the
4rd of 7 events this season, at Lake McClure. It was great
day both for the weather and fishing action on this lake known
for it's scrappy Spotted Bass and big Largemouth. The
weather started clear and crisp and stayed clear as the temperature
warmed as the day progressed. Lake McClure produced the fish
too as 36 of the 40 teams competing brought limits to the
scales.
The day belonged to the family teams as
the top two spots were taken by
Father and Son pairs. On top was the Turlock team of Albert
and A.J.
Azevedo with 15.59 lbs anchored by the second largest fish
of the day, a
solid 4.78 lb Spot. This marks the second time in four tournaments
the
Azevedo's have brought the number two fish to the scale.
A.J. can add to
his college fund with the $1960.00 check they receive for
coming in on top.
The second place team is no stranger to
the winner's podium in the
Motherlode. Oakdale's Father and Son, Randy and Glenn Pierson
have been making the Motherlode lakes their little domain
for a number of years now. The Pierson's brought a solid
bag of 13.80 lbs to add $1037.00 to their fishing fund.
In 3rd, was the team of Aaron Cole of Salida
and David Permenter from
Riverbank. Aaron and David brought a good limit in of 13.20
lbs and
collected a check for $848.00
Taking 4th place for the second straight
week was Atwater's Don Longton, who is no stranger to big
wins at Don Pedro, and his partner Corey Lewis of Merced
with a total of 12.81 lbs. Boosting their weight was Big
Fish of the tournament of 5.21 lbs, giving them a total
payday of $900.00.
Falling only a mere 20 lbs off their incredible
finish At Don Pedro last
week, was Angels Camp's Olympic Skier Kyle Rasmussen and
Joe Menzes. The fifth place team's weight was 12.55 lbs
which brought them a check for $410.00. Those teams vying
for the Angler of the Year race can only be happy that this
team missed the first tournament of the year, as their
performance in the next three (2nd, 1st and 5th) proved
they would be locked solid for AOY. At this rate, they may
still be force to contend with as they are in 17th place
even with the missed tournament!
Team Ryan came to the scales in 6th place
with a weight of 12.38 lbs. Ryan Huskey from Madera and
Ryan Reynolds of Fresno went home with a check for $340.00
Last in the money, 7th place went to the
team of Albert Oliver of Modesto
and the invisable Stan McGee of Waterford. Albert fished
by himself while
his partner recoupperated from a minor procedure. We want
to wish Stan a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing
him at Don Pedro in April.
Albert took home a check for $280.00 for the team.
I would like to thank all the new teams
for fishing and hope to see all in
the next tournament at Don Pedro on Saturday April 10th.
The Big Girls
should be up and fat. This tournament should see big weights
and will have
a dramatic effect on the angler of the year race.
