Heavy fog greeted the 46
North Central Louisiana Anglers Choice Teams that showed
up to fish the march 22nd tournament at Lake Claiborne.
After an hour delay, Tournament director Dale Taylor
announced that the tournament would begin under an idle
only rule. The first flight of 23 boats would weigh
in at 4:00 PM and the second flight of 23 boats at 4:15
PM.
When the fog finally lifted
at mid morning, a beautiful spring day was revealed.
The temperatures were in the high 60's by mid afternoon
and a light cloud cover produced the perfect low light
conditions to insure a good bite, and bite they did.
26 teams weighed in a 5 fish limit and only 2 teams
did not weigh in any fish. There was, however, a distinct
lack of big fish.
Kyle McDonald and Freddie
Hightower bested the field with 5 fish weighing 12.78
pounds for the first place check of $1500. Freddie said
that the morning delay helped them because they caught
there big fish at 3:45 PM. That fish weighed 4.26 pounds,
culled a two pounder, and was big enough to walk away
with the big bass check of $460 bringing the team's
total winnings to $1960 for the day.
Add to that the Bass Cat Bonus Bucks Award of $1000
off of a new Bass Cat boat and I would say that the
team from Ruston had a pretty good Day.
Larry and Shannon Pardue made there second top 5 finish
in a row with 5 fish weighing 12.07 pounds and a check
for $750. With two high finishes in the first two tournaments
the team from Downsville moved into the lead for the
Anglers of the Year points race.
Third place was the team
of Kenny Covington and Glynn Blankinship with 11.94
pounds for $645, Fourth was Mike Owens and EK Koserog
with 11.75 pounds for $550. Fifth place was the team
of Ross and Steve Cagle with 11.58 for $435; Sixth place
was Jereme Grant and Kirby Piquiet with 11.45 for $395.
Seventh place was Jimmy Farrer and Terry Blackman with
11.22 for $335, Eighth place was Sid Havard and Chris
Ginn with 11.09 for $290, and the Ninth place check
went to the team of Kendall, Parent and Louis Book with
11.07 for $240.
Teams reported catching
fish on a variety of lures. Rogues, spinners, brush
hogs, tubes and jigs seemed to do the best.
North Central Louisiana
Teams will be back on Lake D'Arbonne on April the 26th.
The point's race will really start heating up after
this tournament, so y'all get your fishing britches
on and we will se you there.
