The Ouachita River at West
Monroe Louisiana was at the 21 foot pool stage on May
the 1st and the fish were biting like crazy, but two
weeks of heavy thunder showers had brought the river
to 25 feet by May the 20th and the bite was gone. On
Thursday the 22nd the river started falling giving the
31 North Central Louisiana Anglers Choice Teams, that
were entered in Saturday's tournament, hope that the
fish would begin biting again.
Ross and Steve Cagle figured
out a jig pattern in the heavy current of the main river
to post a 5 fish limit weight of 15.03 pounds to win
there first Tournament of the year. The win fattened
their pocket books to the tune of $1295 and another
$1000 for the Bass Cat Bonus Bucks award.
Coming in second with
a limit weighing 13.15 pounds were the long time Anglers
Choice team of Allen Butler and Ronnie Atkins. Ronnie
and Allen caught their fish in D'Arbonne Bayou using
a Varity of lures. Their highest finish of the year
brought them a check for $645.
The rookie team of Lonnie
Dean and Gary Clements claimed third place with their
5 fish weighing 12.90 pounds. Lonnie and Gary have been
consistent all year and finally broke into the money
with a check for $515.
Speaking of consistency,
the team of Jimmy Farrer and Terry Blackman again finished
in the top 5 by claiming 4th place with a limit weighing
11.63 pounds for $410.
Gerald and Chad Williams
got back in the money line by catching a limit weighing
11.62 pounds for 5th place. Their efforts were rewarded
with a check for $325.
Steve Talley and Reagan
Wilkerson finally got there act together and cashed
in with 5 fish weighing 11.24 pounds for 6th place and
a check for $255.
There were two bass that
each weighed 4.55 pounds brought in by Henry Rogillio
and Chris Gates and Jeff Kidd and Todd Peters for the
Big Bass honors. The two teams split the Big Bass Pot
of $310.
With 3 tournaments remaining
the Anglers Of The Year points race is really getting
tight. Scott and Stan Smith held on to the lead with
their 7th place finish on the river, but several teams
have closed the gap considerably. There are at least
10 teams with a chance at the title. This is going to
be fun to watch.
The next tournament for
the North Central Louisiana Teams will be back on Lake
D'Arbonne on June 28th. Get your hooks sharp on those
wobble worms, DD22's and Carolina rigs.
See Ya at the lake!
