Peterson And Surles Tame The Ouachita Monroe Louisiana:
Saturday morning July 17th as 23 North Central Louisiana Anglers Choice Teams gathered at Lazar Point on the Ouachita River, storm clouds were gathering just to the East. The sky was lit up with continuous flashes of lightning and the roll of heavy thunder grew louder as the minutes past. Tournament director Dale Taylor delayed the take off as heavy ran began to fall. Fifteen minutes later the rain let up as it seemed the bulk of the storm had past, but as the last boat left the sky opened up again and for the next two hours 3 inches of rain fell on the competitors.
The nasty weather had a bad effect on the fishermen and the fish as only 9 limits were brought to the scales. The team of Brent Surles and Johnny Peterson won the event with a five fish limit weighing 11.83 pounds. Johnny said that they caught their fish up around Sterlington by pitching soft plastics in the backwaters. Their effort was rewarded with the first place check of $1280.
The first time Angler’s Choice Team of Matt and Scott Hopko brought in a limit weighing 11.41 pounds for second place. Their stringer was anchored by the events big bass that weighed 3.42 pounds and earned them a total of $830.
John Chapman and Jim Dillard used Wobble Worms all day to cull to a 5 fish limit that weighed in at 10.91 pounds to earn them the third place check of $475.
The North Central Louisiana Teams will complete their 7 tournament circuit next month at Lake D’arbonne. The August 14th event will go out of the D’arbonne Lake Marina. Our final qualifiers for the Louisiana State Angler’s Choice Tournament will be determined at the D’Arbonne event. See Ya at the Lake Dale & Gayle Taylor
