“The Gamblers” Pomeroy & Abbot win finally!
It’s official, the first year for the Northeastern Ohio trail of Anglers Choice is in the books. With a small field of eight boats, the team of Brett Pomeroy and Jason Abbot made it count when they needed it to. They were the only team to bag a limit, and more importantly, clinched a trip to the Regional Championship. Brett and Jason was able to do what a lot of anglers could not do this year on the Mighty Ohio, bring a limit to the scales. With a total of 7.90 pounds and two respectable largemouth’s weighing 2.46 and 2.44 pounds, “The Gamblers” walked away with big bass honors and their first victory of the year and winnings totaling $770. Congrats guys!
The farther/son team of Russell and Randy Bump cashed their second check this year, both coming on the Ohio, by taking second place honors and winnings of $150.
It was a tough day for the teams of Jamie Fabian and Cecil Vandyne and Charlie and Jeff Walker who was fighting to claim the title of Anglers of the Year. For starters Jamie’s partner was unable to make this tournament leaving Jamie with the challenge of weighing in one keeper. Yep, that was all it was going to take for Jamie and Cecil to claim AOY. They had enough of a lead coming in to this tournament that only one team could catch them, The Walker boys. Charlie & Jeff also needed to bring a keeper to the scale in the event Mr. Fabian blanked to claim the AOY title. As it turned out, neither team was able to produce a keeper thus allowing Jamie and Cecil to lay claim to the Northeastern Ohio AOY title. Congrats Jamie & Cecil !!! I would like to send out a special thanks to all of the teams that competed this year and congratulations to the eight teams who have qualified to compete at the North Regional Championship in November. I would also like to thank those of you who helped out during the year, Matt, Jamie, Cecil, “Norm”, Craig and anyone else I may have missed.
