1ST PLACE: Kenny Pannell of Springville, who is a Contractor and Lawrence Curd of Trussville, who drives a truck for AAA Cooper took home the 1st Place Guarantee of $2500 with an impressive limit that weighed 20.50 lbs. Their dominate baits were a 5/8 oz. Black/Blue LC Jig, built by Lawrence Curd who has been making them for several years and an Ace Spinnerbait. The team generally likes to fish up river this time of year, but after spending 7 days on the water in the Gadsden area, they had eliminated 2/3 of the water and decided their best chance was to go down about mid lake. They had their limit by 7:30 and knew they had some luck going their way when they hooked their biggest fish 5.50 lbs. and lost it, but pitched right back in the same bush and caught her again.
2nd PLACE: James Kennedy, who owns a Beverage Store, and Kenny Bowen, who owns and operates his own Sawmill and both from Boaz missed taking home the purse by 29/100s of an ounce. Their limit weighed 19.21 lbs., but their bag also had one of the Big Bass of the tournament in it, which was worth another $225 to bring their total payout to $1075. They fished around the islands below the Hwy 77 Bridge using a Lucky Craft Pointer Jerkbait and a Rat L Trap to sack their limit within 15 minutes of starting the tournament. As the day got brighter they found it harder to cull their smallest fish that weighed 3 ½ lbs. James and Kenny are also fishing the Choice Division in Anglers Choice where we will take your best of 7 tournaments or one of the other S. E. Regional Tournament Trials to qualify for the Championship.
3rd PLACE: Gene Ward, a retired Fireman for the City of Gadsden and Kevin Maddox of Alexandria also made their decision to fish mid lake around the islands below the Hwy 77 Bridge and also had their limit by 7:30 am using a white tandem willow leaf spinnerbait with a trailer hook. With both the water temperature and the lake level on the rise they found staging fish in 2-3 foot of water in the morning but as the sun got up, they had to pull out to 5-6 foot to better their limit.
