Well we didn't get a three-peat out of the team of Jordan/Carver even though they get give it a great effort. Mother Nature had to have her say in the out come by providing clouds, wind, rain, sleet, and snow for the 13 teams that braved what she dealt. This mix did not keep the team of Rizuto/Ragsdale from bringing in a good bag mixed with smallmouth and largemouth for total of 12.18lbs that paid $940.00. This team found their fish in the northern part of the lake, which was away from the crowds fishing La Jara and Francis canyons. They were excited about winning the BassCat Bucks worth $1000.00. Seems Chuck Rizuto has a soft spot for them 'Cats since he runs one. Maybe a new 'Cat will be coming into the area soon? The second place team of Johnson/Cottom with 11.54lbs.($470) with a kicker bass of 5.68lbs good for second big bass. The team of Perry/Skelton came to the scales with a bag weighing 10.12lbs. with a 3.71lb smallmouth for a kicker. By the way, this was the first team out of the money but had elected not to get in the Lucky Loser option. Jordan/Carver team came in forth with 9.17lbs. and having paid the Lucky Loser option collected a nice pot ($105) for their efforts. Actually, the option fees were paid by their better halves and they reaped the missed opportunity of Perry/Skelton. Team Stanley/Pirkey found one cooperative fish that just happened to be big enough for Big Fish for the tournament. The largemouth weighed 5.74lbs. and came on a li#@za*&rd. The new team of Nicely/Robinson didn't luck into a big fish but the one they did catch (1.71lbs) was good for the second part of the Lucky Loser pot($35). The last three events had one new team each that won the second part of the Lucky Loser option. With some major tournaments coming up soon on Navajo, it was hard to get info on the winning patterns out of anyone.

Our next event will be May 24 on McPhee and this could be a great tournament if we get some run-off from the winter snows. This lake offers some of the best smallmouth fishing in the Four Corners area. If we hit it right, it could take 15lbs. plus to win. This lake has many fish in the 14" to 18" class. We will be fishing the 15" rule on this lake, which keeps us in line with the Colorado fishing regulations. I will let everyone know where the Friday meeting will be as soon as I can. Tentatively it will be at the Dolores Mt. Inn in Dolores, Co.
