This season it seems
that if you win one, you win the next one too. We have
held four tournaments and have had only two different
winners. Cannot say it was a home lake advantage because
Rizuto lives at Navajo Lake and the local teams blanked.
Go figure. There were 16 teams with 12 teams weighing
fish. We held this event on Memorial Day weekend and
had no lines on the ramp either unloading or loading.
Find that in Southern California even on a non-holiday
weekend. On top of that, the fishing was good even though
the lake was rising and the fish were in that funky
phase somewhere between pre-spawn and post-spawn. In
Colorado, the minimum length is 15"and this lake
has a ton of fish at 14-7/8", which were more common
than the 15".
The team of Rizuto/Ragsdale
reported catching two to three limits but could not
get a kicker. Their efforts resulted in a limit of 5
smallmouth weighing 11.92 lbs, which was good for first
place and $990 plus $1000/BassCat Bucks coupon. The
team of Parks/Malarsie decided to catch fish this time.
They went from zero to hero to secure second place with
5 fish for 11.1l lbs and took home $495. The way they
talked, they were mounting a late charge to qualify
for the Championship. Good Luck. Third place was team
of Kinley/Sooter with 4 fish and 10.50 lbs.worth $265.
They also had the Big Bass for day good for $160. The
smallmouth weighed 4.17lbs, just .05 heavier than the
fish weighed in by team Stanley/Pirkey. Just out of
the place money was the team of Stanley/Pirkey with
three fish for 8.24 lbs. I heard the team of Ashby/Hill
used the tactic of our team (Hansen/Hansen) to win the
second half of the Lucky Loser pot. That tactic requires
the team to do everything in their power not catch many
fish. Seems like Ashby/Hill has learned it well because
they have won both times they have fished. Good job,
Guys. Most anglers have a better role model than Jerry
Hansen but I guess you could do worse.
Our next tournament will
be June 28 at Navajo Lake. This should be a great tournament
with a lot of fish caught. The meeting will be held
at KB Dillon's from 5pm to 7pm. By the way, if you think
you are out of the AOY race, think again. We have three
tournaments left and there are 6 to 8 teams that could
win it all. Do not forget that this year; the AOY team
will fish for $15000.00 against just the other AOY teams
from this region. This is on top of the three boats
that is part of the Championship prize fund. See you
at Navajo.
I would like to thank our

up-coming championship at Clear Lake, Cal. possible.

team circuit.
