The South
Arkansas Anglers Choice Teams gathered at Lake Erling
on Saturday to conduct the first tournament of the 2004
season. With temperatures in the mid 20's and a stiff
north wind that put the chill factor in the teen's,
the 24 team field looked more like arctic explorers
than bass fishermen. As the bundled up bunch left the
launch site at safe light it became painfully obvious
that this would be a very tough day to catch fish.
At the
3:00 o'clock weigh in the observations of the morning
proved to be accurate as boat after boat came in with
only one or two fish, or none at all. Only two 5 fish
limits were boated and a total of 27 fish for the tournament
were weighed in.
Topping
the field with 5 fish weighing a total of 7.56 pounds,
was the Father and Son team of Steve and Ryan McKennon.
The team from Eldorado used soft plastics on Carolina
Rigs to boat the winning stringer and collect the 1st
place check of $1290. A special congratulation goes
to Ryan who was fishing his first Angler's Choice Tournament
with his father. Steve said that young Ryan contributed
to the win by catching the first two fish of the day.
Second
place and Big Bass of the event went to the team of
Jeff Avery and Pat Henley with two fish weighing a total
of 7.25 pounds. Their Big Bass tipped the scales to
4.33 pounds and earned them a total of $860 for the
day. Third place went to Mike Meadows and Rodney Summers
with 5 fish weighing 6.91 pounds to collect a check
for $400
Scott
Tanner and Buddy Norris captured the final check of
$150 with 2 fish weighing in at 6.61 pounds. The South
Arkansas Teams will travel to Lake Claiborne in Homer,
Louisiana for the March 20th second tournament of the
2004 year. Fishing should be great for this event so
come out and join us at Pleasure Point Marina. Entry
fee for this event is $160 which includes the Big Bass
fee.
