The crystal
clear water and high blue sky’s made it tough fishing
for the 26 teams that showed up at Pleasure Point Marina
to participate in the second tournament of the year
for the South Arkansas Angler’s Choice Team circuit.
Cursing
and bedding bass were not difficult to see but were
very difficult to catch. Lures had to be scaled down
and presented perfectly to induce a strike. Ken Lantrip
and Jerry Silmon used Carolina rigged lizards, small
jig’s and rattle trap’s to boat a five fish
limit weighing 14.09 pounds to win the event. Ken and
Jerry elected to ignore the shallow bedding fish in
favor of targeting the staging pre-spawners on the flats.
Their strategy paid off for them as they collected the
first place check of $1340.
Jason
Anderson and Tommy Pyles used small spinnerbaits to
capture five fish weighing 12.37 pounds for second place.
Their efforts were rewarded with a check for $670.
Moving
into the lead for Angler’s Of The Year were Scott
Tanner and Buddy Norris with five fish weighing 12.36
pounds for third place and $460. This was Scott and
Buddy’s second consecutive top five finish. Greg
Beaver and Joe Hicks also finished in the top five for
the second time and collected $200 for there five fish
that weighed 12.18 pounds for forth place. The Big Bass
award of $260 went to William Grafton and Richard Scaife
for there 3.74 pound bass. Congratulations to all of
the winners.
The next
South Arkansas tournament will be back on Lake Erling
. We will be launching at the State Park on April the
17th. Jeff Avery and Pat Henly won this event last year
with 22 pounds, so we are expecting some huge stringers
this year. If you would like to join us for this event
the entry fee is $160 and Angler’s Choice dues
are $35 a year per person.
