37 teams headed out of Waterwood Marina for what would
be the last flight out of the Southeast Texas 2003 season.
As the sun began to rise above the tree tops the temperature
began to rise well into the lower 90's. Anglers reported
great practice days easily finding limits on Friday
and Saturday. Sunday, however; high pressure and clear
skies struck and the fisherman found themselves struggling
for a bite.
Joe Ayers and Ronnie Puckett overcame the weather changes
and culled to a 15.88 lb 1st place finish. Their 1st
place finish won them a check for the amount of $1375.00
and the Bass Cat Bonus Certificate worth $1000.00. This
was Joe and Ronnie's second 1st place title of the season
here on Lake Livingston.
David Curtis and Russell Cecil finish out their spectacular
year with a 2nd place finish, bringing 5 fish to the
scales that weighed14.64 lbs. Their 2nd place finish
came with a check in the amount of $685.00. David and
Russell are the Anglers of the Year for the Southeast
Texas region. All year they were able to make the changes
and find the patterns to beat the best teams Southeast
Texas has to offer.
3rd place went to Brian Sewell and Chip Sewell with
a limit that weighed 12.72 lbs. 3rd place won them a
check for $605.00. This was Brian and Chip's third event
with Angler's Choice; finishing in the money in all
three events.
The big bass of the tournament weighed in at 6.08 lbs.
brought in by the team of Pete Deleeuw and Dan Newrones.
This won them a check for $370.00. They also finished
in 6th place. Their total winnings were $690.00.
The search for the championship
is over; at least for 25 teams in the Southeast Texas
Division of Angler's Choice. As these 25 remarkable
teams head to Toledo Bend to compete with the best of
the rest; everyone else goes home to start preparing
for next season in their quest to the most prestigious
team championship in the world.
Amanda and I would like
to thank all of the Anglers who fished with us this
year. It was our first year to direct tournaments. We
had our ups and downs and learned from our mistakes.
2004 will be an exciting year as we are expecting a
much larger turnout. In 2004 we will bring to Southeast
Texas the best tournament trail Conroe and Livingston
has ever seen. Thanks to the large participation we
had this year we have been able to get the interest
of some big potential sponsors. We hope everyone had
as much fun as we did! SEE YOU IN 2004!!!
Congratulations to Russell
Cecil and David Curtis - The 2003 Anglers of the Year;
and congratulations and GOOD LUCK to ALL of you who
will be going to the championship.
C-YA THERE IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE!!!
