Southeast Texas started out with a bang! 51 teams showed up for the first of seven events at April Plaza on Lake Conroe. Clear skies and low 70 degree temps made for a perfect season opener. Fisherman reported good fishing all week but had trouble on competition day. A limit could not be found and only 2 teams managed 4 weighers.

Brian Penso and Harry Durham were able to overcome the high pressure system and put together a winning combination. Brian and Harry cranked and pitched 8' to 4' ft. shallows from the deck of their 2003 FTD Cougar. They managed to pull together a winning sack with a weight of 15.96 lbs. Brain and Harry received $1905.00 for first and $500.00 from Bass Cat for winning out of their Cougar; giving them a total of $2405.00 for their first place finish.

2nd place went to the father & son team of Terry and Brandon Reich, who once again found their way to a top three finish. They weighed in 3 fish that locked the scales at 13.77 lbs. Terry and Brandon also had Big Bass of the event that weighed 6.89 lbs. They reported cranking the shallows with their American Rod Smith rods to find the right three bites. Their combined 2nd place and Big Bass finishes totaled $1289.00.

3rd place went to the team of Ronnie Wagner and Mike Reagan with a weight of 11.54 lbs. Ronnie and Mike also reported shallow water fishing to produce their 3rd place sack. Their 3rd place earnings totaled $761.00.

Rick Goodman and Chris McMullen took 2nd place Big Bass with a kicker that weighed in at 6.64 lbs. Chris caught the fish off of an 8-12 ft. drop. Rick and Chris took eighth place and 2nd big bass for a total of $485.00.

Our next event will be on Lake Livingston February 29th. Registration will be at the Waterwood Country Club from 4-6 PM February 28th. We had a spectacular start on Conroe and expect a bigger turnout at Livingston. We would like to thank everyone who attended our last event and look forward to seeing everyone on Livingston.
