It's a miracle the mosquitoes didn't run off any of the 22 teams showing up for the 5th tournament of the South Louisiana Team Trail. Talk about vicious little creatures! Nevertheless, everyone managed to take off safely from the Lucky 7 Marina with a lot of itchy little bites.

Due to a strong south wind for the last two weeks, good fishing was doubtful. But, fifteen teams managed to bring in a limit. Mike Gunter and Michael Robert led the pack with 12.07 pounds, which earned them $1165 for the day. Not far behind were Tommy Keller and Ritchie Friloux who weighed in 11.83 pounds for $580. Jerome Davis and Brad Rodrigue brought home $370 for their 10.55 pounds. Fourth place and $310 went to David and Derek Mong when they weighed in 9.13 pounds. Marty Poche, fishing alone, brought in the 4.70 pound big bass for $220.

Even though the heat and humidity made it miserable to be outside, everyone hung around to be treated to jambalaya and white beans. Many thanks go to Don Ponson, who is not a bass angler but a good friend, for the delicious meal. It was definitely above and beyond!

With only two tournaments remaining in 2003, it's going to be a race to the finish.

Until June at Doiron's Landing,

Cayce
