It was a tough bite on Kinkaid
Lake for the 66 men and women who showed up to participate
in the second stop of the season for the Angler's Choice Southern
Illinois division. Many had anticipated the bite to be strong
due to temps in the seventies for several days leading up
to the event accompanied with a warm rain and a strong cold
front that was approaching. The bite however and for whatever
reason just did not materialize. There would be only two teams
that would bring more than a couple of fish to the scales
and they would only have three fish to show for their efforts.
There was however several quality fish weighed in.
The first place team of John
Pasoni from Carbondale, Illinois and Rick Cheatham of Herrin,
Illinois brought 3 chunks to the scales with their largest
weighing 4.96lbs. The team found their fish to be positioned
on windy banks with lay downs and stumps in water depths ranging
from one to six feet. They used R.C. Lures red perch spinner
baits and R.C. Lures black and blue jigs to get their bites.
The teams three fish tipped the scales at 11.59lbs and earned
them checks totaling $1,450.00 for their day on the lake.
The team is sponsored by: R.C. Lures. Great Job Guy's!!
The second place team of Mike
Goesman from Sesser, Illinois and Stan Tyner of St. Louis,
Missouri only brought two fish to the scales but both of them
were quality fish. The Largest of the two saw the scales reach
5.93lbs and earned the team the Falcon Rods/Dunn's "Big
Bite" of the day award. The second fish was not far behind
as the team had a total weight of 10.28lbs with their two
fish. The fish were caught on R.C. jigs in water depths of
approximately ten feet. The team is sponsored by: Dunn's Sporting
Goods, Jetta Marine, Wayne's Prop Shop, Rend Lake Sporting
Goods and R.C. Lures
Third place goes to the Murphysboro,
Illinois team of Harlin Barnett and Carl Johnson. This team
fished windy banks using plastics and jigs to catch their
fish. Two of their fish came off of one log in water depths
of three to six feet and the third was suspended on a bluff
line. The team had a total weight of 9.58lbs and earned them
checks totaling $648.00 for the day.
