The 24 teams that showed up to
fish the 4th event of the season in the Southern Illinois
division of Anglers Choice were greeted with outstanding weather
conditions and less than outstanding fishing conditions. The
river was up, muddy and moving, doing away with the main river
bite so most headed to the many creeks that feed this pool.
Many fish were weighed but there was a definite absence of
the larger fish.
The first place team of: Bill
Penrod of Harrisburg, IL. and Scott Dunn from Mt. Carmel,
IL. bested the field with a total weight of 9.65lbs. The team
headed to one of the creeks in the southern portion of the
pool historically known for its larger fish. The larger bite
was absent but they were able to boat some quality fish including
big bass of the day weighing 3.29lbs. The fish were taken
on spinner baits and were located right on the bank. The team
takes home a check for $1,465.00 and also an additional $1,000.00
in Bass Cat bonus bucks bringing the days earnings to $2,465.00.
Great Job Guys!!
The second place team of: Duke
Jenkel of Pinkneyville, IL. and Jeff Atchison from Ina, IL.
had two keepers in the boat fairly early on spinner bait and
then switched over to plastics after the sun got up. They
found shady banks to be a very important part of their success.
Their last fish came with about five minutes to go just outside
of the weigh-in area, which moved them into the second place
position. The team had a total weight of 9.25lbs and takes
home a check for $650.00 for their efforts.
The third place team of: Jerry
Walker of Zeigler, IL. and Dave Dobill from Royalton, IL.
fished Gene Larew salt crawls and jigs on the outer bends
of the creek channels to boat their five keeper fish weighing
8.42lbs. The fish were located in approximately three feet
of water. The team takes home a check for $425.00 for the
days work.
