The
fourth stop for the US U.S. Angler's Choice Tournament Trails Southern
Oklahoma Team Circuit was on Broken Bow Lake May 4. And for
a change, the first time this year, they had good weather
and the fish cooperated. Five teams had limits of five fish.
Every team weighed in fish. 40 bass were weighed in weighing
80.82 lbs with an average weight of 2.02 lbs.
David
Williams, Broken Bow OK, and Shannon Cogburn, Bethel OK, captured
their second win of the season with five bass weighing 11.92
lbs. Williams and Cogburn fished the upper end of the lake
using pumpkin Zoom Craws, 7" red shad power worms, and
a chartreuse and white Terminator spinnerbait. They slow fished
around stumps and bushes in shallow, stained 69 degree-water.
They had their limit by 8:oclock and caught fish all day.
Williams and Cogburn received the first place prize of $767.00
along with winner's tee shirts from the Label Stable of Ardmore
OK. Williams and Cogburn took over the lead in the Angler
of the Year race with this win.
Second
place went to Shane Lemons, Roff OK, and Dewayne Sutterfield,
Ada OK, with five bass weighing 10.80 lbs. Lemons and Sutterfield
fished buck brush in the mid lake area in clear to stained
water about two to four feet deep. They caught fish all day
slow fishing a watermelon Yamamoto Senko, weightless, and
a watermelon Zoom lizard, Texas rigged. Gary Yamamoto, Bailey's
Outdoor Shop, and Mojo Lures sponsor Lemons and Sutterfield.
The
team of Larry McCollum and Rick Heinze both of Coalgate OK,
had the big bass of the day weighing 3.49 lbs. McCollum caught
it early in the day in Bee Creek on a rocky point using a
Storm Wiggle Wart. Rick's Oil Co. of Coalagte OK sponsors
McCollum and Heinze.
Southern
Oklahoma Teams would like to think Beavers Bend Marina for
their take-off and weigh-in site. K & E Texaco for their
registration site. Charles Wesley Motel for their headquarters
and KBEL 96.7 FM for being the official radio station for
the Broken Bow event.
The
next Southern Oklahoma Team event will be June 1, at Lake
Sardis going out of Potato Hills South Ramp. Registration
and headquarters will be at the Sportsman Lodge (918-569-4751).
The
date of the US U.S. Angler's Choice Tournament Trails Central Team's
championship is Oct. 4-5, on the Red River at Shreveport,
LA. Teams who fish the Sardis event can still qualify for
the Oklahoma State Championship.
