The fishing was very tough on
Lake Eufaula, for the sixth qualifying event of the Southern
Oklahoma Team Tournaments. Only two five fish limits were
brought to the scales and half of the field had only one bass.
Junior Waller, Duncan OK, and
Kelly Jackson, Comanche OK, won the event with five bass weighing
7.23 pounds. They used white spinnerbaits and black buzzbaits
in the mid- lake area fishing weeds and rocks. They had all
five bass by 8 O'clock. First place paid $740.00. This is
Waller and Jackson's second win of the year; they won the
April Eufaula event. This win moved Waller and Jackson into
fourth place in the Angler of the Year Race. J C & J Machine
and Auto, and Waller Machine both of Duncan OK, sponsor Waller
and Jackson.
Second place went to Mettie Hawkins,
Duncan OK, and Kay Barton, Clayton OK, with five bass weighing
6.92 pounds. They won $368.00. Hawkins and Barton caught their
bass on a white and chartreuse Diamond Back Spinnerbait, and
on Bandits Crankbaits. They had four bass before 9 O'clock
and the last one came at 2:15. All of their fish came out
of the cove mostly on points.
Big bass of the event went to
brothers Steve and Rusty Adams of Durant OK. The big bass
weighed 3.43 pounds and paid $120.00. They caught it early
in the day on a 3/8 oz blue and chartreuse Terminator tandem
willow spinnerbait in stick-ups in the mid lake area.
David Williams, Broken Bow OK,
and Shannon Cogburn, Bethal OK, are leading in the Angler
of the Year race, with Harold Waller, Duncan OK, and Ben Garland,
Chickasha OK, in second place. And in third place is Jay Symond
and Tammy Palmer both of Coalgate OK.
