Morgan And Boydston Win Texoma

James Morgan and Buddy Boydston
Bob and Chris Carver

The fishing has been unusually tough this year for Southern Oklahoma Teams, but the toughest has to be the last event of the season. Only one team brought more than one bass to the scales and a fourth of the teams blanked at the Texoma event July 27.

James Morgan, Marietta OK, and Buddy Boydston, Ardmore OK, had three bass weighing 5.57 pounds to capture first place and $600.00 in prize money. They also received winner's tee shirts from the Label Stable, Ardmore OK. This was the second win of the season for Morgan and Boyston; they won the first event of the year on Lake Murray. They also finished second on Lake Texoma at the March event. Morgan and Boyston finished third in the Anglers of the Year race.

The father son team of Bob and Chris Carver, Shawnee OK, had one bass weighing 4.82 pounds. For their one bass they received $280.00 for second place and $100.00 for big bass of the tournament. This was the second time this season the Carvers had the big bass of an event.

Southern Oklahoma Teams would like to thank Catfish Bay Gas Dock for their registration site and for letting them use the gas dock for take off and check-in. And KKAJ 95.7 FM for being the official radio station for the Texoma event.

Hot-dogs, chips and drinks were served after the weigh-in, for the anglers to enjoy while the points were figured for the end of the year. Each team that qualified for the Team Championship was awarded certificates stating they had qualified for the Central Region Championship to be held October 4-5 on the Red River, LA.

David Williams, Broken Bow OK, and Shannon Cogburn, Bethel OK, won the title of Angler of the Year with 801.67 points. Williams and Cogburn won two events and finished second in two events this season. This is Williams second time to be Angler of the Year for Southern Oklahoma Teams.

Second place for Angler of the Year went to Harold Waller, Duncan OK, and Ben Garland, Chickasha OK, with 788.21 in points. Waller and Garland won one event this year and Ben Garland had the big bass of the year weighing 6.45 pounds,
