Winship And Lampton Win Hugo

Duane Winship and Billy Lampton had the winning weight of 13.21 pounds with five bass at the Southern Oklahoma Team Tournaments' Hugo event to receive $950 for first place and an extra $200.00 from the angler's bonus side pot. Winship and Lampton caught their fish early. Their first bass came about 7:00 and by noon they had their limit. They culled one bass in the afternoon. They fished grass beds and brush in 1-3 feet of stained water in the mid lake area. They were flipping junebug Terminator creature baits, white Terminator 3/8 spinners with tandem Oklahoma and silver Colorado blades, and a power craw black with chartreuse pinchers. Falcon Rods and Roadhouse BBQ, Valliant OK sponsor Winship and Lampton, both from Hugo OK.

Gene Robertson, Kingston OK and Don McFarlin, Gordonville TX, came in second with five base weighing 12.86 pounds. They slow fished spinnerbaits and jigs in buck bush in dingy to muddy two feet water. Robertson and McFarlin caught bass all day fishing from one end of the lake to the other. They received $500.00 for Second place and $120.00 from the angler's bonus side pot.

Third place went to Jay Symonds and Kelly McCollum, both from Coalgate OK. They received $400.00 for their five bass weighing 12.83 pounds, plus $80.00 from the angler's bonus side pot. Symonds and McCollum are still leading in the Angler of the Year race with two events remaining in the season.

Big Bass went to James Crane, Durant OK, and Charles Crane Ft.Towson OK, for their 5.09 pound bass. James caught it flipping a Bite Rite tube in stained water. They received $210.00.

113 bass were brought to the scales weighing 249.45 pounds for an average weight of 2.20 pounds per bass. 13 teams had a five fish limit. The weather was hot, sunny, and windy.

The next stop for the Southern Oklahoma Team Tournaments will be on Lake Texoma July 19, going out of Catfish Bay. Registration will be at the Catfish Bay Gas Dock from 7:30pm to 9:30pm Friday night or you can sign up at the ramp Saturday morning from 5:00am till the last boat leaves out. All boats should be on the water and ready to go at 5:30am Saturday, with take off at safe light. Headquarters is the Lakeside Motel please support them by calling 1-888-566-4442 for rooms, and the official radio station for the Texoma event is KKAJ 95.7FM.
