And McFarlin Win McGee
Creek
McGee Creek was the site
for the last event of the season for Angler's Choice
Southern Oklahoma Team Tournaments. Gene Robertson,
Kingston OK, and Don McFarlin, Gordonville TX, won the
event with five base weighing 11.21 pounds. Robertson
and McFarlin used the same game plan they have followed
nearly all year slow fishing their baits and covering
the whole lake from one end to the other. Which seems
to work well with this being their third win of the
season. They fished clear 8 - 20 feet water in heavy
timber areas where they found schooling fish. They caught
their first bass of the day about two hours into the
tournament, with the big bass of the event coming about
11:30 on a black/blue 7" Power Worm. Their big
bass weighed 6.26 pounds and was the only bass weighed
in over the 22" slot. Robertson and McFarlin also
caught bass on a white ¼ oz Terminator spinnerbait
and silver grubbs. They received $950.00 for first place
and $220.00 from the angler's bonus side pot plus $210.00
for the big bass.
Second place and $500 went
to Jason Ward, McAlester OK. and Tracy Gardner, Kiowa
OK with five bass weighing 8.19 pounds. Ward and Gardner
caught their fish early in the day using a 3/8 oz chartreuse
and white Strike King spinnerbait in the Crooked Creek
area fishing 15 feet water over brush piles.
James Crane, Durant OK,
and Jeff Kriet, Ardmore OK, filling in for Charles Crane,
finished third with five bass weighing 7.75 pounds.
They received $ 400.00 for third place and $130.00 from
the angler's bonus side pot.
96 bass were brought to
the scales weighing 127.46 pounds for an average weight
of 1.33 pounds per bass. 11 teams had a five fish limit.
The lake was 4 feet below normal.
Congratulations go to Jay
Symonds and Kelly McCollum, both from Coalgate OK, the
new Anglers of the Year for 2003 with 714.92 points.
Runner-up Anglers of the Year went to the husband wife
team of Sam and Diana Matheny of Ardmore OK. with 703.68
points
