May 23 rd Tournament Results Hoese and Skrzckut on fire. The bass angling team of Mike Hoese (Crown Point, IN) and Brent Skrzckut (sha-coot) (Hammond, IN) have won the last three tournament events held on the southern shore of Lake Michigan over the past few weeks. The pair weighed in a five fish limit of smallmouth that pushed the scales to 16.52 pounds. Included in the teams' weight was a 4.08 pounds smallmouth, which gave them the Toad Award (big bass) honors and an additional $170.00 for the two's biggest payday ($1310.00) of the previous events. The AC, SLM payout surpassed the other payouts as much as 50 to 65 percent. The team had no comment on their success or victory.
The team of David Trombetta and Joel Vogel of Hammond, IN took home second place ($570.00) with a weight of 15.40 pounds. Dave is sponsored by Lakeside Sports and the two won the April AC, SLM event. “We were hoping that our weight would hold up, but when we saw that sack come to the scales we knew we were out of a repeat,” said Joel. “My hat's off to them, we couldn't find the big bite today and that's what you need to win these events,” said Dave. We used mostly tube baits today with these fish in a between stage right now. In all, it was still a good day.
Third place ($255.00) went to the team of Dino Ek (Richton Park, IL) and Butch Opyt (Dolton, IL) with a weight of 13.10 pounds. “We had a good morning spinner bait bite going in the Calumet River, so when that died we move out to the lake” said Dino. Yep; we split the day between the two about fifty-fifty Butch said, “using both soft plastic and spinner bait on the big water”. The team's sponsors are - P-Line, Nichols Spinner Baits, Bass Pro Shop, Lunker Lures Spinner Baits, and Mizmo sponsor the pair. |
